It has been all go for the start of the 2024/25 rugby season!
On Wednesday 25th September, Hong Kong China Rugby hosted their annual Premiership Launch event held at Groundswell in the Kai Tak AIRSIDE mall. Kowloon Rugby Club were excited to showcase our new Premiership Match Kit for the 2024/25 season, featuring our new Gold Sponsor and Club Naming Partner, DLA Piper on the front of the jersey.
Kowloon Chairman Dean McLachlan and Women’s CCO Terry Sibanda were joined by DLA Piper representatives Jayson, Julia and Lauren to help celebrate the launch of the new season. In an extra entertainment piece to the launch, Kowloon premiership stars, Elliott Quinton and Monty Heslop took part in the HKCR surfing challenge. They both battled against players from other clubs, with Monty eventually taking the win for Kowloon.
On Thursday 26th September we hosted the annual Roast Pig-Cutting Ceremony at Kings Park to bless the start of the new season and all our members taking the field this year. It was great to see so many members come out for this annual ceremony, with representatives from each team helping cut the pig.
We look forward to watching all our members excel on this pitch this season and wish everyone the best of luck in their respective competitions.
Following on from these two events, we saw the start of the Men’s Premiership season. Both the Kowloon Premiership and Premiership A teams travelled across to take on Societe Generale Valley RFC in the opening round of the Hong Kong China Nan Fung Group | Airside Premiership Competition.
A tough start to the season saw the Premiership side go down 57-8, and the Premiership A side narrowly missing out with the match finishing up with a 12-6 loss.
This weekend see’s the start of the HKCR Community League’s with the Beavers, Brothers and Championship Women all in action for the first time.
There’s plenty of action at Kings Park this weekend with four Kowloon teams running out across Kings Park 1 & 2, as well as the Championship Women starting their campaign over at So Kon Po Recreation Ground.
